How to reduce the failure rate of internal combustion forklifts used on construction sites? Construction sites feature complex working conditions, poor road surfaces, and frequent heavy-load operations. To ensure stable and durable equipment performance, selecting a genuine construction-specific diesel forklift and strictly following internal combustion forklift operating precautions are the keys to minimizing forklift failure rates. Below is a set of practical guidelines organized from three aspects—model selection, operation, and maintenance—to help you significantly reduce downtime for repairs.
Operating Precautions for Internal Combustion Forklifts

1. Model Selection
Prioritize genuine construction-specific diesel forklifts. These models come with a higher chassis, reinforced frame, and wear-resistant tires, making them suitable for harsh environments such as gravel, mud, and ramps. Equipped with a high-torque engine and strong heat dissipation capacity, they can handle long-term continuous heavy-load operations, reducing the probability of failures from the source. Forcing ordinary factory forklifts to operate on construction sites easily leads to problems such as oil leakage, tire blowouts, and engine overheating.
2. Operation
Pre-start inspection is the first line of defense against failures. Before daily operation, you must check whether the diesel, engine oil, coolant, and hydraulic oil are within the standard range; inspect tires for damage or bulges; check chains, forks, and pins for looseness; and verify that lights, horns, reverse buzzers, and handbrakes are functioning properly. In addition, inspect the operating environment. When there are many debris on the construction site ground, clear the driving route to avoid hard objects puncturing the tires or hitting the chassis.

Start smoothly without sudden acceleration. Since construction site roads are uneven, drive at a reduced speed and prohibit sudden braking or sharp turns. When lifting goods, follow the principle of "symmetrical lifting and centered center of gravity" for cargo handling, and strictly prohibit overloading, unbalanced loading, overloading height, or excessive width. When driving on ramps, move slowly straight up and down; do not make turns to prevent rollovers.
Proper operation is directly related to a low failure rate of internal combustion forklifts. Avoid prolonged idling at high throttle to prevent engine carbon deposition and excessive water temperature; perform lifting actions gently and do not forcibly push heavy objects to reduce impact on the hydraulic system; after wading, gently step on the brakes to dry the brake pads and ensure reliable braking. Rough operation is the main cause of frequent forklift failures on construction sites; standardized driving can extend the service life of the engine, gearbox, and hydraulic components.

3. Maintenance
Regularly replace the forklift's hydraulic oil, clean the radiator, and perform rust-proof protection on the forklift. The construction site environment is relatively harsh; to prevent excessive dust from entering, you need to install additional air filters and replace them regularly. Regularly clean carbon deposits in the oil circuit to avoid more failures caused by carbon deposits...
There are many operating precautions for construction-specific forklifts, but to reduce failure rates, improve the cost-performance ratio of the entire vehicle, and achieve cost control, it is necessary to take comprehensive measures. A low failure rate of internal combustion forklifts is not an accident, but the result of high forklift quality and daily maintenance!
