4 Daily Maintenance Tips to Prolong Electric Forklift Battery Life
Electric forklifts are widely adopted in most warehouses and logistics sites. Improper daily maintenance will cause rapid performance degradation and shorten the cycle life of electric forklift battery. Many users encounter obvious capacity drop within just one year, so it is critical to learn how to extend service life of electric forklift battery.
Standardize charging habits Some operators fully drain the battery before recharging. Deep discharge speeds up the aging of internal battery components. Storing batteries in low power state for a long time also leads to fast capacity attenuation. Irregular random charging consumes battery cycles faster than normal operation. The recommended operation is to start charging when the remaining power drops to 20%-30%. Cut off power promptly once fully charged to prevent prolonged float charging.

Choose proper charging environment Charging under high temperature accelerates chemical reactions inside batteries and generates excessive heat, which may deform plates over time. Do not charge under direct sunlight or poorly ventilated corners. Humid areas should also be avoided, as moisture may trigger short circuit and corrosion inside the battery. Select cool, dry and well-ventilated spots for charging to guarantee effective heat dissipation.

Carry out regular cleaning and inspection Dust accumulated on the battery surface blocks heat dissipation and damages battery life under continuous high temperature operation. Oxidized or loose terminals raise contact resistance and reduce both charging efficiency and discharge performance. For lead-acid batteries, regularly check electrolyte level, since low liquid level will permanently harm battery plates. Wipe the battery surface with dry cloth and fasten terminals during routine inspection. Timely troubleshooting helps avoid unexpected breakdowns.
Operating behaviors also exert great influence on electric forklift battery. Overloading, frequent rapid acceleration and hard braking create instantaneous high current discharge and accelerate capacity loss. Keep stable loads and reduce repeated high-intensity start-stop cycles during operation. Pay attention to these maintenance details, and your forklift battery will serve much longer.
